Through boosting their productivity and diversifying their economies, Africa has the potential to become the next investment attractive investment destination in the world. Despite the end of the commodities boom, Africa still stands as the net exporter of primary commodities. Time has however come for Africa to increase the value of its exports through processing in the country and exporting the finished products to the rest of the world.

Africa has a growing middle class which provide opportunity for non-commodity investment including financial, construction and manufacturing. Indeed, this opportunity accounts for 50% of China’s foreign direct investment in Africa. This has seen the nearly tripling of FDI from 8% in 2003 to 22.8% in 2013 (Diop et al., 2015). Moreover, Africa has an opportunity to increase its exports to the United States of America under the Africa Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) that expires in 2025.

The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) provides even greater opportunities of trade within the African borders. The inter-African single market for goods and services it will effectively stimulate production, streamline trade, liberalize tariffs, and promote a breadth of promising investment.
